Tropack Packmittel GmbH Quality Management Report

Tropack Packmittel GmbH was established in 1991 by Mr. Reinhard Kipke (Managing Associate) together with 6 other colleagues in Lahnau.

Through professional expertise and employee motivation, not to mention the perfect geographic location with excellent logistical connections, Tropack Packmittel GmbH has become one of the leading manufacturers of desiccant packaging for all types of packaging needing protection against corrosion and have developed solutions against humidity problems during storage and transport.

One of the most important investments made during the first years was the decision to develop an IT supported process-oriented organization. The focus to fulfill the expectations of possible customers and to be visibly better than the competition was already there at that time.

Tropack Packmittel GmbH was in the years 1992/93 the first manufacturer in their field to provide their customers, at no additional cost, the quality test documents from manufacturing for their order. This was a wise strategical step in the direction of customer trust.

After meanwhile 17 years in the market, the company has customers from fields with the highest quality requirements. How valuable the investment was can be seen in the diagram from the last customer satisfaction report from the end of 2006.

With a multiple increase in turnover and now over 50 employees, the company has reached a very good position in the market. A continuous optimization of the flow and build-up of the organization has been necessary for the company’s survival.

With support from RKW Hessen in the area technological and innovation counseling in 2007, the company started a new team organization in the area of manufacturing.

The team leaders independently regulate the training of new personnel by using sponsors within the individual teams. The team leaders are the contact persons for all problems, they control the flow of production and coordinate information for the production leadership.

Tightening the organization with a simultaneously expanded decision making process within the teams led to a much more responsive decision making process with a higher machine load factor, maintaining the expected high quality. Disregarding the organizational effect which could not be overseen, approximately after 1 month the new team organization was challenged by an employee survey. The results helped to support the necessary fine-tuning in the following months.

According to Volker Theen’s statement (leading auditor of DEKRA) the TROPACK Packmittel GmbH since 1995 is ISO 9001 certified.

The quality standards demanded by the ISO requirements always have been met by the company without any difficulty.

Volker Theen: Nice to watch that for years measurements have been taken to achieve higher process stability as well as an increasing efficiency. Except for the optimization of the production process close ties to the main suppliers have proven themselves.

The focus for improvement measurements in 2007 was the development of employee resources. The new team structure led to an optimization of the process organization and the flow of information. Although the employees in the past as well worked very quality- and service conscious, still sometimes there were imperfections in the process. Necessary corrective actions all had to be initiated by the production manager. Now the spokesmen of a team are responsible that “their small company” is functioning smoothly. This leads to a more team comprehensive cooperation. During the audit it became obvious that the newly announced team spokesmen got acquainted successfully with their job and with great ambition they identify themselves with their leading task.

Such audits are nice since contrary to many other companies the continuous improvement process at TROPACK actually works.

During the permanent optimization of the complete organization TROPACK GmbH for meanwhile 16 years is successfully accompanied by Dr. Starke Management Systems GmbH. An uncomplicated and at all times innovative cooperation has characterized this support.
