„Made in Germany“

Industrial products can be very delicate. A lot can happen to these products during transport and storage. But it’s not only the mechanical damage that one needs to consider, dampness is also an important factor. Corrosion and other damages due to dampness can cause some products to be unusable. Tropack Packmittel GmbH, a German company located in Lahnau, are specialists in this field so that this does not happen.

“In order to effectively protect products and at the same time be environmentally friendly”, Richard Kipke, managing director of Tropack Packmittlel GmbH explains: “desiccant pouches – filled with highly active drying agents – are an outstanding source of protection.”

Desiccant is used mostly in sea transport packaging, i.e. wooden crates where the product is sealed in aluminum bond- or plastic film and the desiccant is placed within.

The desiccant method, compared to other processes, has the advantage of being exactly calculable (see DIN 55474). Every barrier foil used for packaging has a low water vapor permeability. This continuously entering flow of humidity must therefore be considered in the calculation.

“In the end, the inner atmosphere of the packaging must be kept below 50% residual humidity in order to assure that corrosion cannot occur” states Richard Kipke.

Tropack desiccant pouches with highly active drying agents guarantee safety and assure cost savings through simple packaging, minimizing recalls, reduction in insurance costs, prevention of transport and storage damage and their environmentally friendly disposal.

Overview of types and sizes (DIN 55473)

• VA-Format A Reduced dust fleece pouches made of highly tear proof fleece material, starting at 8 units with hanger. Areas of application: for all oversea packaging purposes.
• PA-Format B Non-dust generating paper pouches made of sodium bicarbonate paper for use in normal packaging purposes.
• TA-Format C Non-dust generating Tyvek pouches made of highly tear proof and non-particle generating special material. Areas of application: pharmaceutical industry, electronic and especially demanding packaging.

Desiccant can be made of alumina, or in special cases and requirements with white gel or orange gel. Orange gel offers the advantage of an optical control of the saturation level in that it turns from orange (at about 15% humidity) to white (at about 30% humidity).

For controlling the activity of the desiccant can also be equipped with an efficiency indicator (a tab attached to the front of the pouch).

After meanwhile 17 years in the market, the company has customers from fields with the highest quality requirements. How valuable the investment was can be seen in the diagram from the last customer satisfaction report from the end of 2006.
